There are many things you can do to start preparing yourself for a career as a model. Many of the things you learn as a model will be of benefit to you in other walks of life. You should always be willing to accept that you may not have the personal qualities or looks to do the type of modelling you want.

Most models only find enough work to work as part time models. Finding enough work for a full time career is not easy, even if you think you’ve got what it takes to become a professional model.

If you want to be a glamour or photographic model then do test shoots with a number of different photographers. This will help you to build up your portfolio of pictures and gives you practice posing in front of the camera.

Taking up acting classes can be useful if you want to find work in TV commercials or promotional videos. In these areas acting and improvisation skills are useful.

Always keep a list of contact numbers for people you have worked with at a photo shoot or other assignment.

Look through fashion and glamour magazines to see what style of pictures you like. Also make a note of who the photographer was for those that you particularly like. You are looking for shots that you think would suit your own image and looks, and also notice the style of pose used and the other elements in the shot which make the picture special in some way.
